Netflix has ordered an animated series based on Ubisoft’s popular game “Far Cry”, as well as its spinoff “Captain Laserhawk”.
Both announcements were made on Friday at the streaming service’s “Geeked Week” event.
There have been five “Far Cry” games, each revolving around the main character working against a formidable dictator who controls a particular island or isolated region. “Far Cry 6,” which will see Giancarlo Esposito voicing the main antagonist (he has some experience there), is due out in October. The first game was released in 2004.
The series will be produced by Hélène Juguet from Ubisoft, Hugo Revon and Gérard Guillemot.
“Captain Laserhawk” by Adi Shankar is based on the “Far Cry 3” expansion “Blood Dragon”. “Laserhawk” features alter egos of Ubisoft characters in a highly referenced tribute to the early 1980s.
Shankar is the creator and executive producer while Juguet, Revon and Guillemot are producing again. Bobbypills is the production studio.
Earlier on Friday, Netflix announced a spin-off of its animated series “Castlevania” featuring Richter Belmont and Maria Renard. You can read more about it here. Additionally, Netflix has announced that Wayne Brady will be playing King Dice in his upcoming “The Cuphead Show”.
